We think faster than we speak.
Why is this important for inventors to understand?
As an inventor, your goal is to see your product on store shelves or in some way being used by your target market, right? So, at some point in the inventing journey, you will need to present the idea or product to investors, to potential licensees or to your target consumer. Since we think at least three to four times faster than we speak, a listener may be several steps ahead of what is coming out of your mouth. Whether you are crafting a 15 second elevator pitch or preparing a full presentation to a potential licensee, your choice of words must be impactful and attention worthy. Words matter! Knowing what to say, how to say it, when to say it, and when to refrain from words altogether are key communication components. A well crafted presentation, long or short, will position your message with clarity, authority, polish and that dash of defining pizzazz.
